Portable Sawmills Advantages of Wood-Mizer

Wood-Mizer Monorail System: Easier, Safer, Smarter.

Wood-Mizer started a revolution when they invented "think-kerf" sawing technology using the popular monorail/sawhead design system that remains popular today as the day it was introduced. Other manufactures have come along with the four-post systems and discovered leveling a four-post mill is a difficult task and time consuming. A heavy log could suddenly send the mill sinking into the ground, causing an imbalance in the frame. Wood-Mizer series of "Thin-Kerf" portable band sawmills is safer, smarter, and faster way to rid yourself of the double-rail dilemmas.

With the monorail/sawhead design, portability is so much easier. Setup on uneven land takes mere minutes, compared to a four-post mill where you often have to struggle to get each post exactly level. And with the monorail design, the log deck doesn't require being totally level in order to cut lumber accurately.

Our monorail/sawhead is the solution to cutting in rugged and sloped territory. Instead of two rails on each side of the mill, we use two vertically mounted rails to provide the perfect balancing point for the head. (Just think of a monorail train--it works just like that!) If you set your mill on a hill, the monorail/sawhead will follow the monorail track perfectly, no matter what the tilt angle. And without two rails, mud, rocks, and bark have a place to fall without getting in the way of the head travel. The sawyer is also much safer, because there's no need to reach over a rail to get close to the board. The line of sight for the sawyer is also much better, since there is no need to look through four post systems. And logs aren't being rolled across the side by two rail systems.

Plus, our unique head and bed design allows smooth cuts over irregular-shaped and knotted logs. Think about it. A two-rail system creates a box for you to put the log inside. The Wood-Mizer design gives you a rectangle, with one side going into infinity. Just put the knot or irregular shape in the open area to begin sawing.
